Unfortunately, NAMM was cut short by a non-Mack Amps related emergency that caused me to leave Los Angeles on Saturday morning after only two days at the show. Everything worked out fine, but it was a shame to have missed the rest of the show and the exciting events surrounding it.

NO BS here ... you NEED to check out a new guitar learning method called Modenomics. I guess you could say I was a guinea pig of sorts for this method and I have tremendously improved my guitar improvisation chops from studying with the author. This approach really does work! more »

28 knobs and 8 switches on the front panel - the new Marshall JVM must hold some sort of record. Does the guitar playing world need an amp with that many knobs? I suppose the answer is "yes" as Marshall will presumably sell a bunch of these things. But, is it necessary? more »

Every amp has tone controls. Some have only one, some have three (treble, middle, bass) with other switches or controls that tweak some aspect of tone (cut, presence, resonance, etc.). The question is how do you use them? more »

It's pretty clear from many reviews and comparison tests that NOS tubes sound better than new tubes of the same type. However, does the improvement in tone justify the typically gigantic uptick in price? more »

Saturday at NAMM sees the biggest crowds ... and the most tire kickers. This is the day when the mix of attendees is mostly visitors who have somehow scammed entry badges from manufacturers and are at the show to check out gear and have some fun. more »
