Had an inquiry the other day from a potential customer asking whether Mack sells the Heatseeker HS-18 as a kit.  The answer: no.  Bummer!  I hate disappointing people.  But, it's the right thing to do.

Why? For two reasons.

First, FOCUS.  Mack as a company has been designed to produce standard products - well designed, well built, great sounding (we think), standardized products.  We want to be that way because by focussing on a few succesful designs we can be very efficient.  Efficiency means we can minimize cost.  And that means we can adhere to our credo of providing our customers with Budget Boutique amps - TRUE boutique tone at an affordable price.  We think that diluting our focus by providing kits would take focus away from our mission.

Second, the cold hard business reality dictates that we avoid the liability that comes with providing a do-it-yourself product that involves playing with electrical voltages and current high enough to stop your heart.  Ethically we don't want to go anywhere near a situation where a customer could harm themselves with our product.  Legally we don't want any part of the aftermath of such a tragic occurence.

So, although I would have loved to have put a big smile on Jim's face by saying YES to kits, I couldn't.  It wouldn't have been true to what Mack is all about.  Best to stick to what we're good at and what we're passionate about.
